Look-alikes in Ontario

Canada moonseed (Menispermum canadense) is a woody vine that is superficially similar but produces poisonous berries. It differs in that it lacks tendrils, the leaves are not serrated, and the berry has one seed. Summer grape (Vitis aestivalis) produces edible grapes but is less common in Ontario. It differs in that the leaf stalks are as long as the blades (or longer) and the leaves are white to silvery blue beneath.
