Look-alikes in Ontario

The not-recommended Turbinellus floccosus differs in that the stem is hollow, the cap has scaly orange patches, and the underside has pale ridges that are not lilac. Although eaten by some, for others it causes severe gastrointestinal upset. The not-recommend Turbinellus kauffmanii differs in that the mature fruiting body is vase-shaped and the depressed cap is brown with prominent scales rather than being smooth or felt-like.
