King Bolete

  • cap is smooth, has white rim
  • underside of cap has tiny, round pores
  • pores are white, then yellowish in age
  • pores and flesh do not bruise blue
  • top of stem has white, net-like pattern

Look-alikes in California

A number of inedible boletes are superficially similar in appearance but lack one or more of the key characteristics. The edible Boletus regineus differs in that the cap is usually dark brown.
