all parts of plant are edible.
peeled roots, young stems and leaf stalks are best.
roots are sweetest when slow cooked for long periods, otherwise are bitter.
cooked roots can be dried for storage; soak overnight to reconstitute.
seeds can be dried or roasted and pound into meal.
grows on dry stoney slopes in foothills.
warning: do not confuse with the poisonous
